Precision hemodynamics for coronary artery disease — modeled per patient, differentiated by sex.

Sex-differentiated coronary hemodynamics — flow and pressure modeling

HEMOPSIS is a medtech spin-off of the University of Porto (FEUP/CEFT) and 2CA-Braga, developing SHECAD — Sex-aware Hemodynamic predictors of Coronary Artery Disease. SHECAD reconstructs coronary hemodynamics from angiography data already collected in routine clinical practice.

The problem

Coronary risk models weren't built with sex differences in mind

Coronary artery disease is among the leading causes of death worldwide, yet the vascular anatomy, hemodynamics, and disease progression of male and female patients differ in ways most diagnostic and modeling tools were never built to capture. As a result, risk assessment and treatment planning can miss patient-specific detail that matters clinically.

Most computational hemodynamic tools available today also model a single anatomical snapshot — one moment in time — rather than how disease actually develops.

WHY IT MATTERS

A gap between imaging and insight

Hospitals already perform invasive coronary angiography (ICA) as part of routine care. That data holds more information than standard workflows extract — including the biomechanical signal needed for sex-differentiated, longitudinal risk assessment.

The technology

SHECAD: patient-specific coronary hemodynamics, from data you already have

SHECAD reconstructs coronary hemodynamics from invasive coronary angiography (ICA) already performed in routine clinical practice — no additional imaging or procedure required. It is built on a longitudinal dataset with double follow-up, developed in collaboration with 2CA-Braga.

What sets it apart

Built around three ideas most tools leave out

01

Longitudinal biomechanics

Modeling how coronary hemodynamics evolve over time, rather than a single anatomical snapshot.

02

Sex-differentiated modeling

Accounting for known anatomical and hemodynamic differences between male and female patients — an axis largely absent from existing tools.

03

Temporal disease evolution

Tracking how disease progresses to support earlier, more personalized clinical decisions.
